I Was Making More Than the People I Was Watching
A couple of guys I'd been watching shared their numbers. I was making more than both of them, and I'd started my firm before they did. Plus, I have some great processes that are unique. That's when I decided I could start talking about how I run my firm.
That's the whole reason this channel exists, and it's the thing I want you to take from this episode: the people you're watching are not as far ahead of you as you think, including me. They're just posting about what they're doing.
Yehuda Tenenbaum, EA came to Orlando to talk about simplifying your firm before tax season. We got into the minimum tech you need to start, why I built my own TaxDome pipeline instead of buying one, and the Claude projects I use for review, reasonable comp, and tax strategy.
I also explain why I (sometimes) stop watching Jason Staats videos. We love Jason. Watch the segment before you send me an angry message.
What we cover:
Why you feel behind, and why that's a stress problem instead of a tech problem
The minimum stack to start a firm, and what you can skip
Understanding pipelines before you buy someone else's
Whether every service needs its own pipeline
The Google doc I keep all tax season and work through every August
Using AI in a way where you still own the output
Build it yourself or pay someone to keep it updated
